Dearreader,in2009whenwefoundedtheManufactureitwasimportantforustocontinuewhatMr.ArminStromhascreated,aswesharethesamepassionforwatchesashedoes.Wearedrivenbythefascinationfortransparentmechanicsandwebelievethathorologicalcraftmanshipshouldneverbehiddenbehindadial.Andso,westartedtocreateourownexclusivewatchmovementswithalotofpassionanddiligence.Wedonotcompromisewhenitcomestothedevelopment,productionanddecorationofourwatches.Westrivefortechnicalandestheticalperfection,andareproudoftheproductiondepthinourmanufactoryaswellasofthesensibilityandcraftsmanshipofourcollaborators.2019marksaspecialyearforusaswecancelebrateour10thanniversaryofbeingamanufacture.Amanufacturewhichispassionateaboutimprovement,developmentandingeniouswatchmaking.Wearedrivenbyrethinkingexistingideasbecausewebelievethatnewtechnologiesopensalsonewwaysofhowatimepiececanbeproduced.Todaywecanpresentyoualong-liveddreamfrombothofus.SincewehavestartedthemanufactureitwasawishtocreateourownMinuteRepeater.ItisafantasticmilestonethatweachievedtocreatetheworldfirstMinuteRepeaterbasedonaResonancemovement.TheMinuteRepeaterResonancetellsstoriesabouttheevolutionoftheartofwatchmaking.Andwewillneverstopprovidingsuchstories.Yourstruly,SergeandClaude9

MINUTEREPEATERRESONANCEINSPIREDBYTHEZYTGLOGGE*Forthe10thanniversaryofourfullyintegratedmanufacturewewantedtodevelopaworld-firstmasterpiecefullyhighlightingthebrand’ssavoir-faire.Astheindustryleadersinresonance,includingthemanufacture’slaboratory-certifiedresonancetechnologywasaneasychoice.ButourtwofoundersSergeMichelandClaudeGreislerwantedsomethingmore:agrandcomplicationandthefirstchimingwristwatchproducedinthecantonofBern.Inspirationforaminuterepeatercamefromanunusualsource:asixteenth-centurytowerclock.WearebasedinBienneinSwitzerland’scantonofBern,andtheywantedtopayhomagetotheregion.WhiletheFrench-speakingregionofSwitzerlandisknownforamultitudeoffamoushistoricaltimepieces,Bernhasfarfewer.Butitdoeshaveonelandmarkclockthateveryoneintheregionknows:thethirteenth-centuryZytglogge.Theclockinthistowerhasnotonlyservedasthecity’smainclockformorethan500years,thetoweralsoservedasthereferencepointfortraveltimesindicatedonstonemarkersalongthemaincantonalroads.ThisclocktowersupposedlyhelpedAlbertEinsteinhonehisspecialtheoryofrelativitywhileworkingasapatentclerkinBern.Theimpressivetowerclockisanimatedwithautomatons:fourminutesbeforethechangeofthehour,acockcrows,abear(thesymbolofBern)makeshisrounds,andajestertakesthelibertyofannouncingthehourinadvance.Andatthetopofthehour(andonthequarters),theclockchimesthetimeforalltohear.DevelopmentAsmastersofresonancemovementswewantedtoworkinpartnershipwithmastersofchimingwatches,andourco-FounderClaudeGreislerknewtheperfectpersonandteam:hisoldfriendAlainSchiesser,founderofCercledesHorlogers,withwhomhehadworkedwithinthepastatChristopheClaret.Workingbehindthescenes,LeCercledesHorlogershasdevelopedaroundhalfoftheminuterepeaterslaunchedbyprestigiousSwissbrandsoverthelastfewyears.Originallytheminuterepeatermechanismhadbeenenvisagedtobeinthetraditionalpositionatthebackofwatch,buttheteamdecidedthatitdeservedequalbillingwiththeresonantregulatorsdialsidewhereitcouldbeappreciatedbyall.Thisbroughtmanytechnicalchallengesofitsown.Wedidnotonlywantedtheresonantregulatorsandminuterepeaterhammersandgongstobefullyvisibleontopofthemovementdialside;Greislerand*Don'tbothertopronounceittherightway13

MINUTEREPEATERRESONANCEhisteamdidnotwantappreciationoftheanimatedmechanismstobepotentiallydilutedbytheassociatedgearingnecessarytodrivetherepeaterandgoingtrainforthetimedisplay.Sothemovementsareinvertedwiththepinionsdrivingtherepeaterhammersandhourandminutestransversingthetwoverticallystackedcalibers.Theysaynecessityisthemotherofinventionandthat’scertainlythecasehere.Spaceconstraintsmeantthattherewasinsufficientroomforseparatelargemainspringbarrelsforeachofthetwomovements,soourR&Dteamdevelopedaninnovativesinglebarrelwithtwoindependentmainspringsinside,eachdrivingitsownmovement.Thehighvisibilityofthecomplicationsdialsidealsodictatesthatthewatchmakershavetopayveryspecialattentionwhenassemblingandregulatingthewatchastheslightestscratchormarkonthebeautifullyhand-finishedsurfaceswouldbevisibletoall.Skeletonizedbridgesandplatesallowvisualaccessthroughthesapphirecrystaldialdeepintothemovement.dingmultiplethermictreatments.Whiletheexactprocessisacloselyguardedsecret,itissaidtobeverysimilartoPatekPhilippe’sprocessformakinggongs.Allcomponentsarefinishedtotheveryhighestlevel,butofspecialnoteisthetremblagehand-engravingonthelargegoldenbalancecockssupportingthetwooscillatingbalances.Whiletitaniumistheperfectmetalforbothtransmittingtheresonatingsoundfromthegongstotheearandensuringthatthewatchisrelativelylightandcomfortabletowear,itisa‘cold’metal;thiscoolnessisbalancedbythewarmgold.ResonanceInthepursuitofhorologicalaccuracy,precision,andratestability,resonancehasusuallyinvolvedusingtwoindependentmovementsconnectedtoallowfinetuningoftheWhilethevastmajorityofthecomponentswereproducedin-houseatourmanufactureinSwitzerland,thegongsweremadebyLeCercledesHorlogersinaprocessinvolvingmorethan30differentstagesinclu-«Inventionisnottheproductoflogicalthought,eventhoughthefinalproductistiedtoalogicalstructure.»—AlbertEinstein14
