絵画を主なメディアとし、現在は東京を拠点に活動。自身の祖母の死にまつわる体験をきっかけにポートレートの制作を始め､2018年にドイツ・ハンブルクのアーティストランスペース〈FRISE〉にてアーティストインレジデンスに参加｡ドイツ滞在中にフリーマーケットで見つけた古いファウンドフォトから着想を得て､架空の人物によるまなざしをテーマに現在のシリーズを展開。｢存在と不在」「記憶と忘却」という題材に触れながら、あたかも“見えているもの”はすべて他者と共有可能であるとするような現代において､わかりにくいこと､忘れられてしまったもの、目に見えないものの危うさとその意味を問いかけている。吉田紳平PrimarilyworkinginpaintingandcurrentlybasedinTokyo,theartistbegancreatingportraitsfollowingtheexperienceoftheirgrandmother’spassing.In2018,theyparticipatedinanartist-in-residenceprogramattheartist-runspaceFRISEinHamburg,Germany.Duringtheirstay,theyencounteredoldfoundphotographsatfleamarkets,whichbecameasourceofinspirationfortheircurrentseriescenteredonthegazeoffictionalfigures.Engagingwiththemessuchas“presenceandabsence”and“memoryandforgetting,”theworkquestionsthefragilityandsignificanceofthingsthataredifficulttograsp,forgotten,orinvisible—withinacontemporarycontextthatassumeseverything“visible”canbesharedwithothers.ShimpeiYoshida
